Strictly Line Dancing

We had a great meeting in November when  local line dance teacher Joan Thomas led us in a series of line dancing sequences and  our very own Joan who celebrates her 90th birthday later this month showed us exactly why line dancing I a great way of keeping in shape when she demonstrated the charleston for us and it was 10’s all round from our members.

October 23rd is our book group meeting at Bavo on Southgate Road. We are currently reading Jagua Nana by Cyprion Edwensi,  full details on the relevant page of the website if you would like to join us

November 19th is our next Knit & Natter venue to be decided – email us at the usual address if you want to come along, or if you want learn to knit, we have some expert knitters on hand to help with any and all knitting related questions

and get researching as our final meeting of the year in December is a fun packed and challenging Quiz Night plus mince pies and mulled wine

Osteopathy

Osteopathy for Heath

We enjoyed a highly informative meeting in June when Sundip Balraj Singh-Aujla, a registered osteopath joined us to talk about women’s health, the importance of correct posture and how to maintain a healthy pain free posture. We learnt about the importance of sleep, nutrition and movement in maintaining a healthy body and healthy bones, along with the benefits of making exercise like yoga and Pilates an integral part of our lives to help us maintain pelvic and spinal stability.  And we also leant how osteopathy can help in health maintenance and injury prevention. Thank you Sundip for a enlightening evening.

It was also a big voting month.  At the NFWI AGM in Cardiff in early June the 2019 resolution Mental Health Matters was passed with a 98% YES vote from members.  There will be a fuller report from the day posted on our campaigns page over the next couple of weeks.

We also voted on what we might do with our surplus from our fundraising activities last year, buttons were placed in jars and the tally was equally split between Bloody Good Period, the Freedom Club and financing a craft meeting for members.

Next months dates for your diary
July 7th is our big fund raiser for the year, Party In The Park, taking place in De Beauvoir Square between 2 and 5pm. We are running the Tea & Cake stall for the fourth year running and are looking for people to help with baking and also for help on the day. It’s a fun afternoon for all the family. Get in touch if you are willing to bake and/or help at the usual address.

10th June Processions March in Central London where we will be taking our banner on another trip out to celebrate 100 Years of some women getting the vote.

Plus on 30th June we are having a Girls Day Out with a trip to Bletchley Park.

January meeting

QiGong 

What better way to kick off the New Year than with last nights practical workshop that helped us rebalance our bodies and our energy after the business of the festive season. A big thanks to John Haywood who joined us to introduce us to the ancient art of Qigong (Chi Gung), literally translated as ‘Life Energy Cultivation’. Qigong is a holistic system of co-ordinated body posture and movement, breathing and meditation used for the purpose of health. It is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance Qi, translated as life energy. There is also research published showing benefits for mental health, with a reduction in cortisol, the hormone produced in the body in response to stress, so a great way to kick off our own self care in the light of the 2019 national resolution on mental health.

John runs a weekly class at Castlehaven Community Centre in Camden on a Tuesday at 11am.

Knitting group is also back, for beginners and experts, we will be meeting on Monday 21st January, venue to be decided, again email in if you would like to learn to knit, hone your existing skills or want to come along for a knit and natter

SOLACE
We will be resuming our collections of toiletries for the women in the Solace refuges – bodywash, shampoo, conditioner, etc all welcome

Night Shelter
The Night Shelter at St Peter’s will be up and running from the 7th January, we are providing a home made cake every Monday throughout the course of the shelter running – we have had volunteers for January but if you fancy baking a cake in February or March to deliver on a Monday then let us know.
